The Women's Essential Rain Jacket is a stylish, lightweight piece featuring Gore-Tex with Paclite Technology—making it waterproof, windproof, breathable, and extremely packable. The hydrophobic Gore-Tex membrane contains over 9 billion pores per square inch to reduce internal moisture, and the Paclite layer regulates temperature while keeping weight to a bare minimum. The Essential jacket also features fully taped seams to prevent leaks, Velcro cuffs that can be cinched to keep out the cold, zippered hand pockets for storing small items, and an attached hood that adjusts for better facial coverage. If interior heat should begin to build up, simply open the Pitzips—zippered ventilation openings under the arms—to increase air flow. Review: Pretty much the perfect rain shell - I was on the hunt for a rain shell and had several specific criteria: 1) long (if you're in the pouring rain, what good does a coat do if it only covers the too half of you? Wet butt, no thanks!). This is definitely long to cover your bootie. 2) waterproof- obviously. I haven't tried this in rain yet, but it's Gore Tex, so I'm confident this has that covered. 3) lightweight and packs up small- this is so lightweight it feels like air. It rolls up pretty small. Like one other reviewer said, I got mine at a steak by getting a used desertcart Warehouse deal on it and the tags were still attached. Definitely like new and paid a fraction of full price. I got black which wasn't my first pick but for the price I can't go wrong. I'm 150lbs and 5'6" and the medium definitely fit and looked the nicest. However if I squat down, it kinda cut me across the hips and there wasn't a whole lot of room for layering. A large didn't cut me across the hips when I squat and I could put a fleece underneath and not feel constricted in the least. It wasn't as flattering of a look, but if I'm in a downpour, I want to be dry, not a model. Plus when you're soaked I hate the feeling on having tight clothes in addition, so large is the winner. It doesn't have the look of being "too big" either if you know what I mean. It still looks nice and looks like it fits - just with a little more wiggle room. Overall I'd definitely say this fits the bill. I'm looking forward to being dry in the rain and hope this lasts for most of my life! Review: I love the length - but the most notable: the incredible lightness. - I love this jacket! I bought it after lots of research as it was one of the few good quality jackets with a nice long length. This is crucial when you’re hiking or doing other activities as you don’t need to worry about baring your lower back to the elements when bending over, etcetera. This is particularly important, especially for someone as tall as me (5’11”). Colour? Gorgeous. I got the blue. It’s very different in different lights, varying from ink navy in the dark to a stunning blue and deep royal blue. Size? I’m usually a size 14-16 AU or 10-12US. I tried the large in in store and while it fit, there wouldn’t have been much room for layers. So I ordered the XL. Perfect. Plenty of roominess, which I prefer. Especially plenty of room in the sleeves for movement, even in the slimmer large. This is notable to me, as I often find that if an article of clothing is going to be too small, it will be in the arms. Quality? I’ve worn goretex jackets before and so know if their quality. This jacket is no exception. The water droplets just slide right off, even in an absolute downpour. The absolute best part of the jacket - so incredibly light and packable. I seriously didn’t believe it when it arrived. It weighs nothing. My parents want to update their hiking jackets to jackets that are similarly light. It’s wonderful. The only thing I don’t like? No interior pockets. So far hasn’t been a major issue, but I did used to use them a lot in my previous jacket. So we’ll see. Oh and I’m from Australia, where desertcart does not ship to. Ugggh. Sucks. I had to use a middle man to get the jacket to me, which cost an additional $80. Overall? Buy it. It’s a worthy investment.

quality raincoat
Well made. I ordered larger size so I could wear a jacket underneath easily. Velcro on front closure, cuffs and pockets are strong. Pockets are deep and also have zipper closure. No inside pocket. Good length to cover thighs. Two way front closure zipper another plus. Also under arm zipper vents. Hood alittle big on me but has adjustments. Color is as seen and I get compliments on it and the over all jacket. So far good in the rain. I like long walks and hikes and with rain pants this keeps me dry. A great price for the quality. Fit for broad back/chest, 5'2", large, to accommodate down jacket or bulky sweater.

Lovely color
Fabric seems quality and is definitely water proof. Like the not too bright cheery color, length and slim but still comfortable fit. Favorite feature is the pit zips for breathability. Unfortunately didn't get a chance to use it. Bought it for a rainy vacation but it arrived too late and didn't need it anymore.

Great deal for GoreTex
Got this jacket at near 1/2 price, very good deal for GoreTex. At 36C-28-37, athletic shoulders, the M fits perfectly over a T-shirt plus medium weight hoodie. If you're planning on more/fleece underneath, size up. Normally, I wear S in tops, with exception of Columbia rain jackets. I wanted a longer jacket for rainy walks/hikes so upper legs/buttocks stay dry and at 5'4", it comes to mid thigh. Lightweight, good hood design, platinum is a nice neutral color; personally, I like the velcro closures, since I had been used to those already from rain/wind jackets from Northface and Columbia. Now I just have to figure out how to wash it. My Northface goretex jacket gave strict instructions to wash with powder detergent, which is what the jacket label says. However, the big cardboard tag from GoreTex says liquid detergent.... waiting for answer in the Q&A. Will update once I've put it to the test in rainy Patagonia!

*Was* In love with this jacket...Updated
*Updated 9/2021 - purchased in 4/2019, loved it at the time. Unfortunately, it has started to leak. The rain seems to be penetrating the coat. I use this coat only a few times a year, so this is incredibly disappointing considering how EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE this coat is. I really thought going with GoreTex would be worth the money, but now so disappointed to have wasted it so much money. Must be a knockoff?? Can't find any option to return or to ask seller why this is happening. After getting soaked when my old LL Bean raincoat finally had it, I went looking for a GoreTex. The prices on others were way out of my range, until I found this one. It's perfect. Hard to find a good midlength coat. Seams are covered, hood stays up, zips up to face, covers down to thigh, secure pockets, warm without being hot. It's absolutely kept me dry, and comfortable.

I am usually a medium, and after reading the reviews, ordered a large. It's a tad big, just like I wanted, in order to fit a sweater underneath. I've tried it in the rain, and yes, the raindrops form little beads and just roll right off. So exciting to finally have a raincoat that will keep me dry! I love the colour, too, a nice, deep shade of blue. The zippers work well, don't catch, and being on the pockets ensures items won't fall out. The underarm venting zippers are a clever addition. It's also extremely light, which is good. I'm a pear-shaped woman, and I find it fits just fine.

The sleeve fitting is narrow under the arms causing the pit zips to intrude into the arm pits, very uncomfortable, requires an extra inch to be unable to wear any layers underneath . A heartbreaking decision to return the jacket searched for a long time very difficult to find a quality women’s shaped longer length gortex jacket with a well fitting hood, body and sleeve length was perfect overall perfect except for under arm fitting. Jacket XS fitting my weight 49 kg, height 5’ 2”.Four star rating for the overall jacket quality.

Excelente para lluvias ligeras y no más de 30min de exposición, ya que después de ese tiempo o con lluvias intensas, se empieza a filtrar el agua !!

Good lightweight jacket and size is perfect.

This is decently priced, high-quality lightweight waterproof. The fit and feel is nice. I particularly like the fact that it is long enough to cover your bum which is what you want when hiking - so many of the good-quality jackets on the market are cut short - which is useful when you are wearing a harness but not ideal the rest (i.e. most) of the time.
