PONY 50 Clamp Fixture for 3/4 Inch Black Pipe

Quality clamps,I've been using for years. I used 4' galvanized pipe ,with end caps.

It's pretty simple really. Pony has made these clamps before I ever started woodworking in Jr. high school, and I see no changes in their design since then. If you clamping a project even remotely important, buy 4 of these clamps. I usually buy 4 foot black pipes to go with them, but that depends on what your needs are. Nothing is more useless to me than too short a clamp, and nothing quite as cumbersome as too long a clamp, so decide what your needs are before you buy. These are simple to put together and work every single time. Unfortunately, I recently bought a competitors set of clamps that were very high quality made, but the design was nearly useless for me in the shop. The clamp head would slip off because this design was not threaded. No big deal? Try working with them during glue up! So then the choice was clear. Just order the right clamps from Amazon and be done. These will last and perform as long as you need them.

I built a shed recently, making the door from tongue-and-groove decking boards. Before I could attach the 2x4 braces I needed to clamp the tongue-and-groove planks together. To fit big tools in the shed this door is 3-1/2' wide, so I needed a couple of big clamps. Two of these Jorgensen fixtures, plus a pair of 5' black pipes, did the trick quite nicely. A few useful tidbits: - The threaded black pipe recommended for use with these clamps comes with black grease to lubricate and deter corrosion. Clean this off before attaching the clamps so you won't mess up your wood. - I strongly recommend getting a set of rubber clamp pads when you order your clamp fixtures. You only need one set for two fixtures. Don't gouge up your wood. - The screw clamp fits into the orange sliding flat surface with a steel pin. One of mine came out, and I had to go get a hammer to re-assemble the clamp. I deducted one star for this, but it was just annoying rather than a fatal flaw. - Black pipe typically comes in sizes from 1' to 5'. Shop for the pipe before buying the clamp fixtures if you need more than 5'. The fixtures take up a good half foot themselves, so 4' pipe wouldn't have worked with my 3-1/2' door. Bottom line: an essential tool if you're trying to build something big. Recommended.

I bought a six foot 3/4 inch pipe at the hardware store. It was threaded on both ends, so I figured that I would cut it in the middle and put pipe clamps on each end. The reviews for both the Bessey BPC-34 and the Jorgensen 50 Pony clamp were good, so I bought one of each. Jorgensen 50 Pony clamp * Pros: Heavier duty screw, tighter clearance between clamp and pipe, heavier duty tail stop, heavier-duty design overall Bessey BPC-34 * Pros: Slightly lower cost, plastic clamp covers, slightly better foot design * Cons: Finish is adequate, but a bit rough I believe that the Jorgensen clamp is better built and offers better value. If possible, it would be nice to see some of the design elements of the Bessey included in this clamp and even better finish, although between the two I prefer the Jorgensen and believe that it offers better value.

I paired this with a galvanized 6’ pipe from big box store to square up a gate I was building. Worked great with one minor exception which is that the face of the clamps are smooth. Smooth faces do make sense for fine woodworking and such but a pad or grooved style face model would have been better for my particular usage but overall the clamp still worked great.

These clamps are great and no matter how many you own you will always need one more. To make them even more usable buy pipe that is threaded on both ends. Then you can use a connector to join the pipes together if you need a longer clamp. We connected five 48" bars together once to make a 20' clamp and used it to draw up the rails on a deck. With both ends threaded you'll need to protect the threads on the exposed end of the clamp. For 3/4" pipe I use 1" heavy rubber chair foot protectors. They are the rubber pads you often see used on the bottom of a cane or pair of crutches. You should be able to find them at any hardware or big box store sold in packs of four for a couple dollars. Just think of it as a low cost investment that may save you a lot of grief later on. The pads last almost ten years before they dry out and need to be replaced. They'll not only protect the pipe threads but if you ever stand them up on end, and we all do, they won't slip and possibly damage a job site floor. When doing a kitchen one of our guys had a clamp slip and the cost of the floor repair would have bought more pads than you and I both would have used in several lifetimes. Additionally, you should consider putting rubber pads on the end all of your pipe clamps whether they're threaded or not. I have a crescent shaped scar on my right foot that is a constant reminder that every pipe clamp needs a rubber pad on the end. For almost 30 years I've kept pads on every 3/4" pipe clamp I own and if the pad is off or missing it does not leave the shop.

Excellent quality product. Perfect for when you don't have a really big work bench and need to hold larger items in place. Used it to help glue up a custom built set of 80 inch tall doors. Although the pipe is made of steel, there's an expected bit of flex going on when the length of pipe used is long. The work around is to clamp once on one side of the peice and another clamp near it on the other side to even out the deflections. BTW - all other types of clamps will flex when the clamping length is long. When you add the cost of the required black pipe required for my project, this could be considered a costly purchase. Hopefully I'll get a lot of use for these.

Manufacturer recommends black 3/4 pipe, maybe because it grips better the clutch on the moving part of the clamp. But the 3/4 black pipe I could find locally, seller said was too weak/thin to open the thread, so I went with "medium series" galvanized 4/4 pipe. Fact is its stronger and it doesn't slip, works perfectly. Build is very good, namely the clamp "square" thread which puts a very positive strong force. Recommended.

Las utilicé para prensar una puerta, tienen muchísima fuerza al grado que pude unir todas las piezas utilizando solo 2 prensas. Realmente me sorprendieron,, sin ellas no hubiera podido terminar. Las recomiendo ampliamente. Cuando las compré dude de ellas, pero al ver la cantidad de presion que ejercian sobre la madera quedé sorprendido.

Bonne qualité, finition assez propre et vis assez fluide. Des tuyaux achetés sur toolstation vont très bien avec.
