Q: Is the ink pigment or dye based?

Pigment ink The only problem I see it that you have to order the ink from Canon only. I can’t find it anywhere else

Q: Can it print edge to edge? As in print on the full 24" width or is there a required margin?

Yes. Make sure u crop it first. Then resize to 24" x what ever leghth.

Q: I have several highly detailed 24" x 36" size pencil drawings I want to scan; will this machine do the job?

There is no scanner, printer only.. the scanner model will not scan large drawings.

Q: What is the largest length for a 24" width? Is it17"? (ie 17x24 is the biggest?)

using roll paper, you can print 24" wide by whatever length is necessary for document or poster
